Fabbri (the publishers of the Battles
in Time comic and card series), and later Eaglemoss, started publishing
The Doctor Who DVD Files from January 2009 onwards. Issued fortnightly,
each issue came with a DVD containing two episodes of Doctor Who from
the start of the ninth Doctor series. Each DVD had alternative covers,
one (the default) produced an ongoing collage across the spines and
the other (achieved by reversing the paper cover) with a numbered/titled
spine and different cover picture (at least two of these covers showed
incorrect episode numbers).
As with Battles in Time, the series was launched in some areas of the UK as a test market before going national. By Issue 28 the series of DVD Files had caught up with the live TV show, so from Issue 29 focus was turned to Dr Who classic stories, with the DVD featuring the full multi-part story from an earlier Doctor's era. Focus switched back to two episodes per issue of the live series from Nos 55 to 56 and Nos 74 to 80. According to the Eaglemoss Facebook page back in June 2014, the series had been extended to at least 185 issues. However, the arrival of Issue 152 confirmed the series was ended with that issue, leaving the collection incomplete with a number of available classic Doctor Who episodes not included. |
