Alex
is written by Charles Peattie and Russell Taylor which first appeared
in book form in 1987. After Volume V, the UK books continued un-numbered,
and became a larger format. In recent years the series has become a "Best
of..." annual, commencing with two compilations (1987-1998 and 1998-2001)
then annually thereafter. Below
is a Gallery of Alex Books in year order.
![]() ![]() PLEASE NOTE : This gallery shows the actual correct covers for each issue shown, as they are in my collection. Amazon and eBay often show completely different covers using 'stock images' which were gleaned from publishers pre-publication info. I do not know why booksellers on such sites use these 'stock images' as they are very misleading, and if they have the actual book for sale they should represent it correctly. 'Stock images' are the bane of collectors everywhere. Update : It appears the latest Alex books (2021+) are now only available from the publisher HERE as I cannot find them on Amazon or eBay. |

Australia/New Zealand
Alex
cartoons were published in Australia by The Australian Financial Review
and the subsequent "Best of" books were issued by the same publisher.
I know of at least six and do not know if they continued. The Books were
large format (B4 size), 72-page paperbacks.

The
narcissistic main character of the comic
strip, Alex Masterley, is a career climber who values his personal status
far above his family and long-suffering wife, Penny. Alex is a philanderer
and Penny nearly divorced him after a protracted affair with his secretary.
While any divorce lawyer Columbus
Ohio probably won't find the topic of divorce very funny, the Masterley's
marriage problems are an integral part of the Alex comic strip story.
