The Cathy comic strip by Cathy Guisewite started in 1976 and was an immediate hit all around the world. The first book was titled "The Cathy Chronicles" published by Andrews and McMeel Books in 1978 followed by two landscape books which were reprinted by Bantam Books as Volumes 1 and 2 of 'The Cathy Chronicles" in 1981. From then on Andrews and McMeel continued to publish at approximately one per year to 2000 with the latest collection issued in 2005. A year or two later after each publication, Ballantine Books, under the banner of Fawcett Crest, reproduced these strips in two volumes for each of the originals.

In 1991 a Fifteenth Anniversary Collection was published entitled "Reflections" and in 1996 a Twentieth Anniversary Collection with no sub-title. In 2001 a mini series of 4 books were published by Andrews and McMeel to celebrate 25 years of Cathy.
