POPOUT MAPS

My friend Anne introduced me to these lovely little popout maps and I have got somewhat carried away with collecting them ever since. They were originally published by Compass Maps until their acquisition in 2021 by Heartwood Publishing who have published them ever since. According to the official Website, only ten UK places are now covered, though when Compass Maps first started there were a few more places. There is also a new one of Brighton & Hove not on the list on their website. The maps are often revised and re-published with new covers. The series also covers Cities worldwide, but as with my other map collections, I am restricting this collection to just UK and Ireland.

The original popout maps comprised of just one map uniquely folded so that when you opened the card, the map popped out as shown below. Later editions started to include two or even three popout maps, along with smaller maps on the back and in the middle of the card. The '4 Maps' editions contain two popouts and two smaller maps whereas the '5 Maps' editions contain two popouts and three smaller maps. The '6 Maps' editions contain three popouts and three smaller maps.

When I first started this collection I published several galleries showing all the maps but as the collection has grown this has proved to be time-consuming and hard to maintain. Consequently, I have back-tracked and will now only show the covers.
