Anne
of Green Gables was based on the 'Anne' novels of L.M. Montgomery and
has been the subject of many films and TV series, both live action and
animated and this gallery references just a few of the TV series. Anne
of Green Gables was a five part miniseries shown in 1972 on the BBC
(and has since been wiped and lost so no copies exist). One TV tie-in
book was published by Puffin Books in 1973. The BBC produced a sequel
miniseries 'Anne of Avonlea' in 1975 and a tie-in book was published
by Peacock Books. Two further miniseries were made by CBC in the US,
Anne of Green Gables (1985) and Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel (1987)
the latter based on the second and third books, Anne of Avonlea and
Anne of the Island. A list of L.M. Montgomery's
books in order is at the bottom of the gallery. The two US series were
represented in tie-in editions of all six books published by Puffin
Books. There was also a TV tie-in hardback as the 12th 'Children's Golden
Library' published by The Daily Mail in 2004.
