Doctor
Dolittle was a series of novels by Hugh Lofting (List
at end of gallery) and was featured in a film released in 1967 starring
Rex Harrison in the title role. Only the second novel was re-published
with a movie tie-in cover and two movie tie-in hardbacks were published
in 1967, 'Doctor Dolittle and His Friends' by Collins and 'Doctor Dolittle
Gift Book' by World Distributors in 1967 as the 1968 annual. The reading
order of the original books differs from the publication order and
this can be found at the bottom of the gallery. On television there
was an animated series that ran for one season of 17 episodes from 1970
to 1971, and then in 1998 the movie franchise comprising of five films
commenced, the first two starring Eddie Murphy, though none of these
movies have been novelised to my knowledge. In 2020 there was a new
movie titled simply 'Dolittle' starring Robert Downey Jr, again not
novelised.
