Fu
Manchu (sometimes written as Fu-Manchu) was a series of fourteen books
written by Sax Rohmer (full list at bottom of gallery)
that inspired several movies and TV series. The first two movies were
silent ones released in serial format, 'The Mystery of Dr. Fu Manchu'
(1923 fifteeen episodes) and 'The Further Mysteries of Dr. Fu Manchu'
(1924 eight episodes). These were followed by 'The Mysterious Dr. Fu
Manchu' (1929), 'The Return of Dr. Fu Manchu' (1930), 'Daughter of the
Dragon' (1931) and 'The Mask of Fu Manchu' (1932). Fu Manchu returned
to the serial format in 'The Drums of Fu Manchu' (1940 fifteeen episodes)
that was later edited and released as a feature film in 1943. Twenty
five years later, five further Fu Manchu films were made featuring Christopher
Lee in the title role... 'The Face of Fu Manchu' (1965), 'The Brides
of Fu Manchu' (1966), 'The Vengeance of Fu Manchu' (1967), 'The Blood
of Fu Manchu' (1968), and 'The Castle of Fu Manchu' (1969). On television
there was 'The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu' that ran for thirteen episodes
in 1956.
The books have been re-published many times by different publishers and most were not film tie-in covers. Although I would love to have a full collection of all the different publisher covers it proves too costly to acquire them all so this gallery is limited to what I have in my collection and images acquired from contributors.  =
