The Kids of Degrassi Street was the first children's television series
in the Degrassi franchise that ran as a collection of annual standalone
short films that started with Ida Makes a Movie in 1979 running for
twenty-six episodes to 1986. Eight books were published by Puffin Books
(in the UK) and Lorimer Books (in the US) as novelisations of twenty-four
of the twenty-six episodes. The franchise continued with several spin-off
series including Degrassi Junior High (1987 to 1989), Degrassi High
(1989 to 1991), Degrassi: The Next Generation (2001 to 2015) and Degrassi:
Next Class (2016–2017). At least two of the books were re-published
in the cover design of the later Degrassi Junior High books as part
of the 'Degrassi Classic Novels' range.
