Maigret
was a French detective character created by Georges Simenon who featured
in seventy-five novels and twenty-eight short stories between 1931 and
1972.
There have been three television series. The first was made by BBC TV that ran for four seasons (comprising of 52 episodes in total) from 1960 to 1963 starring Rupert Davies in the title role. Eight of the books were published with TV tie-in covers by Penguin Books and at least one by New English Library / Four Square Books. The second series was made by Granada TV starring Michael Gambon in the title role that ran for two seasons from 1992 to 1993. Six of the books were re-published with TV-themed covers matching the six episodes of season one of the TV series. These six books were also published in a hardback omnibus edition by Book Club Associates. A third series of Maigret was made by ITV starring Rowan Atkinson in the title role which ran for two seasons of two film-length episodes based on four of Simenon's books from 2016 to 2017. The first book adapted for the first story of season one has been re-published with a TV tie-in cover. Many thanks to Roger Merry for images of the 8 first television series books. = In My Collection / = Not in My Collection |
