Rumpole of the Bailey was a Thames Television series that ran for seven seasons from 1978 to 1992. Each season consisted of six episodes and there was also a two-hour special, "Rumpole's Return" which was aired in 1980, between the 2nd and 3rd series. The author of the series was John Mortimer, who subsequently wrote several books about Rumpole including novelisation of the TV series, the later radio plays aired on BBC Radio and new stories (Full list at bottom of page) - he died in 2009. Most of the books were published by Penguin Books in paperback with several re-printings and resultant cover variations.
