The
Ruth Rendell Mysteries was a crime drama TV series that ran on ITV for
twelve seasons from 1987 to 2000, based largely on the Inspector Wexford
novels by Ruth Rendell (list at bottom of gallery).
The first six series focused entirely on Wexford, played by George Baker.
Repeat airings of these series changed the programme's title to "The
Inspector Wexford Mysteries". Later series shifted focus to other short
stories previously written by Ruth Rendell, with Wexford featuring in
only three further stories, in 1996, 1998 and 2000. When broadcast,
these three stories were broadcast under the title "Inspector Wexford".
Some of the books were published as TV tie-in novels or omnibuses and
this gallery is currently limited to my collection.
