The Smurfs is a Belgian comic franchise centered on a fictional colony
of small, blue, humanoid creatures who live in mushroom-shaped houses
in the forest. The Smurfs was first created and introduced as a series
of comic characters by the Belgian comics artist Peyo (the pen name
of Pierre Culliford) in 1958. The franchise began as a comic and then
expanded into television, movies and toys. The first appearance on screen
for The Smurfs was in a short (nine episodes) black and white series
in 1961 which were later made into an 87-minute animated film called
'Les Aventures des Schtroumpfs'. A further movie originally made in
1976 'La Flūte ą six schtroumpfs' was released in 1983 in the US as
'The Smurfs and the Magic Flute' following Hanna Barbera's popular Smurfs
animated TV series that ran for nine seasons from 1981 to 1989. Two
live-action movies were made, The Smurfs (2011) and 'The Smurfs 2' (2013)
followed by a third fully animated film 'The Smurfs: The Lost Village'
(2017). A third television series started in 2021 and has run for two
seasons to date.
A large number of books and comics have been published over the years including novelisations of the three recent movies and this gallery is limited to books in my collection or those I know about that I would like for my collection.  =
