Tom
and Jerry was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
(MGM) who produced 114 short films from 1940 to 1958. Rembrandt Films
then made a further 13 short films from 1961 to 1962. Chuck Jones then
took over and produced a further 34 short films from 1963 to 1967 bringing
the total to 161, still popular today and shown repeatedly worldwide
on television. Five new short films were produced between 2001 and 2021
bringing the total number to 166. There were several spin-off TV shows,
"The Tom and Jerry Show" (1975), "The Tom and Jerry Comedy
Show" (1980–1982), "Tom & Jerry Kids" (1990–1993), "Tom
and Jerry Tales" (2006–2008), and "The Tom and Jerry Show"
(2014–2021). The first feature-length film based on the series, "Tom
and Jerry: The Movie", was released in 1992, and 13 direct-to-video
films have been produced since 2002, with a live-action/animated hybrid
film released in 2021.
Dozens of books have been published over the years, including many annuals, and this gallery is woefully incomplete, just showing books in my collection or those I know about that I want for my collection. = In My Collection / = Not in My Collection |
