Captain
Scarflet and the Mysterons (often shortened to just 'Captain Scarlet')
was a children's TV Sci Fi series made with puppets using a technique
called supermarionation by Gerry Anderson. The series ran for one season
of 32 episodes from 1967 to 1968.
Captain Scarlet books were first produced in the UK by Armada Books. To my knowledge, only three novels were printed, each in a series called "Spectrum File". Titan Books later started to revive the series by reprinting Book 1 in 1989. Inside Book 1 was the list of forthcoming books stating "The Silent Saboteur" as Book 2 but to my knowledge it was never published. In 1992, Young Corgi started printing novelisations of the original TV episodes, but after four books the series halted. In 1992 Boxtree Books started printing younger reader novelisations of some of the episodes but ended after eight books. In 2005 an animated series was made titled "New Captain Scarlet" which ran for two seasons totalling 26 episodes, both shown in 2005. Puffin Books have published a novelisation of the first two episodes (in one book) and Ladybird Books have published two hardback books based on this series. ![]() ![]() |
