Hagar
the Horrible books were produced in several formats in Australia and New
Zealand, not the least of which was the popular large soft-cover magazine
size books. The publishers that produced these were Beaumont (from 1976
to 1984) and Capricorn (from 1985 to 1986). Budget Books also produced
standard size paperbacks and some longer landscape books.

The
following books (No 1 and No 2 of the Budget Books landscape series)
have recently been the topic of much discussion. It appears that there
was a printing mixup during 1986/1987 so that both books ended up with
the same comic strips in them (from No 2 in fact). With many thanks
to James McCutcheon for bringing it to
my attention, and to Mark Bishop from down
under for this information. The CORRECT 1st printing (and some reprints) of "The Best of Hagar The Horrible No.1" has the ISBN 086801298X on the Copyright page and on the Bar code on the back cover. It has the introduction strip ending with "...devoted husband has returned". The INCORRECT printing of "No.1" (perhaps only the 1986, 1987 reprint) has the "No.1" cover but it's contents is entirely "Even More of the Best of Hagar The Horrible No.2"! It has the ISBN 0868013358 on the Copyright page but (of course) the Bar code on the back cover is from "No.1". The first introduction strip ending with "...with a cherry in mine". The CORRECT first printing of "Even More of the Best of Hagar The Horrible No.2" has the ISBN 0868013358 on the Copyright page and the back cover. The first introduction strip ending with "...with a cherry in mine". The INCORRECT printing of "No.2" (probably only the 1986, 1987 reprint) has the ISBN 086801298X on the Copyright page and the ISBN 0868013358 on the back cover. |
