The Perishers by Maurice Dodd first appeared in the Daily Mirror newspaper in 1959 and ended in 2006. The first Perishers book was issued in 1963, often referred to as 'Meet the Perishers' but was in fact just titled 'The Perishers'. The second issue, like Andy Capp was issued later in 1965. Further issues were mostly two per year commencing in 1968 (exceptions being three issued in 1972, one in 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977). In 1974, in addition to the numbered book, an omnibus was issued, followed by two more in 1975 and 1976. The numbered series ended with No 27 in 1981. Thereafter, one 'omnibus' per year was issued from 1982 to 1990, the last two being re-titled as 'collection'. The Perishers became an animated cartoon TV series in 1979 for one season.
