The
1st Doctor : William Hartnell (1963 - 1966)
The first Doctor Who book was published in hardback by Frederic Muller Ltd in 1964 followed by two further hardback books in 1965. The first paperback Dr Who book ("Dr Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks") was published by Armada Books in 1965 , two years after the series started on TV, based on the second Doctor Who story "The Dead Planet" (reprinted by Avon Books in the US in 1967). Then came a novelisation of "The Crusaders" by Dragon Books also in 1965, based on the fourteenth Doctor Who story of the same title. In 1973 Target Books started novelising the TV stories.
